Are you at risk of osteoporosis?

Fifty is the magic number… After this age you have 50-50 chance of developing osteoporosis. Your genes, lifestyle choices, and medical history can all contribute to your risk. After your menopause, loss of oestrogen exacerbates the situation by drying your bones out and making them more susceptible to fractures.

For this feature, I worked with the National Osteoporosis Society ( to highlight what we all need to know about our bone health, and spoke to three women who were learning to live with the disease.
